RomeAccording to legend twins Romulus and Remus were abandoned on the banks of the river Tiber to die, but they were saved and suckled by a female wolf. When they grew up, decided to found a city but disagreement arose between them on its location. Romulus by killing Remus settled the argument. Around 750 BCE, he founded the new city and named it after himself. At the beginning, Rome was the capital of newly stablished Roman Kingdom, and later ancient Republic of Rome.
Rome became rich and powerful and as a capital and seat of the Roman Empire power ruled over the vast territory, from Atlantic Ocean to Middle East and from North Africa to Northern Europe. By the advent of Christianity in the Roman Empire the city of Rome became the spiritual and physical seat of the rich and powerful Roman Catholic Church. Rome, throughout history, has witness periods of construction and destruction, prosperity and poverty, peace and war, … Rome has always survived and became to be known as La Città Eterna (The Eternal City), which is the site of major pinnacles of artistic and intellectual achievement all the way to the present time.
I prefer to call it “La Grande Bellezza!”
